Property Description:
Located in “Outdoor Adventure Paradise,” Fruita, Colorado, the Stonehaven Inn offers an unrivaled rustic charm to every weary mountain biker or triumphant, rough and tumble white water rafting enthusiast.
Built in 1908 by Mr. Harry Phillips, this two story grey stone beauty is listed on the National Historic Register. An elaborate enclosed wraparound porch provides guests the unique opportunity to enjoy the mild and pleasant Fruita climate but remain safe from the elements in case Mother Nature decides to shake things up a bit!
While maintaining an old world appeal and all the original woodwork and hardwood floors, the property is also complete with every modern convenience including, all updated electric and laundry facility on the second floor.
Featuring a uniquely decorated, two bedroom suite on the first floor and a large suite with private bath on the second, guests can enjoy a quiet privacy without feeling isolated from the friendly community this welcoming hospitality property encourages.
A fantastic light filled dining area and airy kitchen provide a perfect space for visitors to socialize or take a peek at what the resident chef has in store to amuse the palate.
Sitting on 1.3 acres, this gorgeous home is surrounded by coniferous and deciduous trees of various ages and varieties. Nestled in the lush emerald grass of the back garden sits a romantic little gazebo, its narrow posts and delicate railings painted a flawless snowy white. The dappled shadows which filter lightly through the nooks and crannies of the whispering leafy branches freckle the surface of a fairytale perfect wishing well. Standing only steps away is an enormous gnarled tree stump, bursting with intricately twisting vines which cascade down the stunted trunk, heralding growth and the promise of new life in a comical yet poignant irony.
A picture perfect red barn currently serves as a garage space and handyman’s workshop but could easily be converted into an artist’s studio or writer’s retreat.
The property is conveniently connected to the city sewer system, comes with 3 shares of ditch water rights and is zoned for weddings and other events. This makes the Stonehaven Inn perfect during the warmer months for matrimonial events and equally as convenient during the cooler times for business or religious retreats and winter sports junkies. To comfortably accommodate many visitors, the Stonehaven Inn offers ample parking for small cars as well as larger all terrain vehicles.
In addition to providing excellent guest accommodations there is a cozy owner’s quarters featuring one bedroom, bath, office/study room, kitchen, living area and laundry facility. Adjoining the owner’s quarters is a rentable unit which includes the same amenities. This promising piece of real estate has the potential for much growth in the hands of an enthusiastic and creatively energetic person.
About the Area
Considered by many to be a veritable Mecca for mountain bikers, Fruita offers more single track trails than even Utah’s famed Moab.
The 18 Road Trails feature four popular trails requiring various experience levels. Known as the Prime Cut, this trail is a perfect place for beginners to cut their teeth on the rocky bike terrain that dominates this part of Colorado. Chutes and Ladders, the connecting trail, becomes progressively more challenging and though, the trail named after a child’s board game would seek to lull you into a false sense of security, look out! The chutes are steep, proving the ageless rule that what goes up must eventually come down! Joe’s Ridge and the Zippity Do Da (another amusing misnomer) are for intermediate and advanced mountain bikers respectively.
These are a handful of the sickest trails in all of Fruita and a must for the extreme athlete.
If your adrenaline isn’t properly rushing yet, you may opt to proceed to the Kokapelli Trail System. If you were only warming up back at the 18 Road Trails, you may choose to skip the Rustler’s Loop, Mary’s Trail, the Horsethief Bench and Steve’s Trail as these are described as beginner and intermediate trails and move directly to the Troy Built. To round out the exciting afternoon, you may choose to hit Mack’s Ridge which connects nicely to Troy Built via Lion’s Loop.
If a tour is more your style, Fruita offers an interesting “Hut to Hut Mountain Biking Adventure.” These trips are self-guided and include, beverages, food and baggage transfer from one hut to the next. The adventure also includes one night at the Gateway Canyons Resort with a meal included as well as a shuttle to return you safely to Fruita.
If biking isn’t your bag, there are many other diverting activities to choose from in flourishing Fruita.
Interested in dinosaurs? This spectacular city features the world famous Museum of Western Colorado’s Dinosaur Journey. A good time for all ages. If Jurassic Park is not your thing, consider a scenic trek on the back of a friendly trail horse or participate in a round of golf at one of the many area’s golf courses.
If you have a taste for something more intense, Fruita offers excellent multi-day white water rafting trips. This is not for the faint of heart. The rapids are challenging, demanding an athlete’s full respect.
Various annual festivals including, the Fruita Fat Tire Mountain Bike Festival which starts the biking season off with a delightful bang in early spring and Mike the Headless Chicken Festival, a unique gathering dedicated to the consumption of chicken, chicken recipes, the “chicken dance,” the 5K “Run like a headless chicken,” chicken bingo and various other chicken themed activities take place in mid spring and help to make this area a popular tourist spot. The Fruita Fall Festival is a must see event as well. Originally a harvest celebration, this festival has morphed to include a major Blue Grass event, elaborate parade and over 150 vendors.
You can't help falling in love with this enchanting little town!
